Why a Bible Reading Plan?

"This plan is a tool to simply encourage you to spend some time on a daily basis in God’s Word. I have found that establishing that daily habit blesses my life in so many different ways and I am confident it will bless yours. Each day in this plan has one chapter to read. Most chapters can be read in less than five minutes easily. Over the course of the year, we will make our way through several books of the Bible. Each day you will also find a specific verse to focus on and a principle based on the Scripture to think about for life application. You can do this! It’s not complicated and it will enrich you as you go because it is the Living Word of God. I will be praying that God speaks to you in many ways as you journey through His Word through this year."

I am the way, The Truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6

January

Reading Colossians is a great way to start the new year. It was written by the Apostle Paul to the believers in Colosse to defend the deity of Christ. False teachers were teaching that Jesus was not actually God. What Paul wrote to defend and describe who Jesus is, we can read now and be reminded of His greatness and glory. We are constantly bombarded with false teachings and messages, so especially at the beginning of this new year, it is good for us to remind ourselves of who Jesus is and focus on His supremacy and sufficiency in all things.

Read Colossians 1

Key Verse
Col 1:27 " God wanted to make known among the Gentiles the glorious wealth of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Truth Takeaway to Personalize Today
Because Jesus Christ, the hope of glory, lives in me, I have all His resources available to me, am sufficient in Him, and can step out in faith and obey anything God calls me to do this year.

The Book of James

The book of James is one of the most practical, direct books in the Bible. James, the half-brother of Jesus and leader in the Jerusalem church, wrote this letter to Jewish believers who had scattered because of persecution they were enduring. Reading James gives us timeless instruction for many areas of our lives in how to walk out our faith in a world that has growing hostility toward Christianity.

The Book of Ecclesiastes

Ecclesiastes was written by Solomon in his latter years as he looks back on his life and processes the regrets he has because of trying to find meaning, purpose, and satisfaction in life apart from God. As you read Ecclesiastes, think about the many things in our day that have the potential to distract us and become substitutes for God. Let this reading be a reminder to you that life will only make sense and be fulfilling as we live it with our hearts centered on God.

Read Ecclesiastes 1

Key Verse
Ecc 1:17 "I applied my mind to know wisdom and knowledge, madness and folly; I learned that this too is a pursuit of the wind."

Truth Takeaway to Personalize Today
Though Solomon started well in life as he learned and applied the wisdom of God, he lost his way as he tried to find satisfaction in other things rather than God, and had to learn that doing life without pursuing God leaves us empty.
